Having a credit or debit card that you no longer use to make purchases still available as a purchasing option in your Xbox account can be a big security risk. That will be just one more piece of sensitive information that anyone who hacks into your account will have easy access to. As a result, it’s a good decision to remove any credit or debit cards you no longer use for Xbox Live purchases from your Microsoft account, which removes all information associated with that card from your account.
And now, the steps to remove a credit card from your Xbox Live account.
Step 1. Open a Web browser on your computer, and then navigate to xbox.com. The Microsoft Xbox screen appears.
Step 2. Click “Sign In” in the upper right corner of the screen. A green Sign In screen appears.
Step 3. Enter the email account associated with your Xbox Live account, and then click the blue “Next” button. The green Enter Password screen appears.
Step 4. Enter the password associated with your supplied email account, and then click the blue “Sign In” button. You’ll return to the initial Microsoft Xbox screen you landed at, but you’ll see your Xbox Live username and profile picture in the upper right corner of the screen.
Step 5. Click your profile picture in the upper right corner of the screen to display a drop-down menu, and then click “Microsoft Account.” The Microsoft Account screen associated with your account appears.
Step 6. Click the “Payment & Billing” drop-down in the blue bar along the top of the screen to display a menu, and then click “Payment Options” in the menu. The Payment Options screen appears, displaying a list of all payment options associated with your Microsoft account.
Step 7. Locate the credit you want to remove from your Microsoft account. Click the blue “Remove” button that appears in the list of options to the left of the information for that specific card. A screen appears, asking if you’re sure you want to remove this specific card from your account. Alternatively, if the card you’re trying to remove is currently set as the payment option for a Microsoft service, you’ll be prompted to change the payment option associated with that service before you can remove that card.
Step 8. Click the blue “Yes, Remove” button. A screen appears confirming the removal of that card from your Microsoft account. The card, and all of its associated information, will be removed from your Microsoft account, and as a result will no longer be available to make purchases with in your Xbox Live account.
